OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY – OUT THERE IN THE DARK (25TH ANNIVERSARY VINYL EDITION)
Cardinal Fuzz & Feeding Tube Records proudly present: the sound of AM radio melting in your hands.

Let’s get this straight: Out There In The Dark isn’t just a record. It’s a séance. A fever dream. A love letter written in eyeliner and distortion pedals. And 25 years later, it still sounds like the future if the future had a lava lamp and a cheap guitar amp buzzing like a wasp trapped in a sunbeam.

To mark this milestone, Cardinal Fuzz and Feeding Tube Records are thrilled—ecstatic, really—to finally liberate this lost classic from the digital oubliette and give it the only home it ever deserved: VINYL, baby. Big, beautiful, analog vinyl. Drop the needle and let the woozy magic spin out like smoke rings in a haunted soda shop.

Originally released in 1999 by DF2K—Del-Fi’s weird, beautiful late-century alter ego—and in Europe via Poptones, Alan McGee’s post-Creation brainchild, Out There In The Dark came out bathed in critical reverence and instant cult status. If those names don’t make you salivate, you're either too young or too dead.

This record is where Eno crashes into Hawkwind, only to bounce off a jukebox stuck between Petula Clark’s greatest hits and a slow-burning Phil Spector B-side. It's pure Matthew Smith, Detroit’s own psychedelic necromancer, conjuring sweet harmonies and tape-saturated daydreams from the control room of Jim Diamond’s Ghetto Recorders, using a mammoth reel-to-reel machine named Laurel and Hardy that sounds like it’s powered by ghosts and humming transformers.

Like Guided By Voices, Outrageous Cherry weren’t playing retro—they were tapping the bloodstream of rock & roll itself, breathing new life into forgotten frequencies and fractured memories. This record is a jukebox from an alternate timeline, a parallel past-future where AM pop meets motor city meltdown and everyone’s just a little more beautiful when they’re blurry.

Thirteen tracks, zero filler. You get Motor City guitar meltdowns married to bubblegum harmonies. You get Brian Wilson fronting a garage band high on sunstroke and sci-fi. You get “Tracy”, “Corruptable”, and “Where Do I Go When You Dream?” beaming out like time-traveling radio signals to a planet that never quite made it out of 1968.

And then there’s “Easy Come, Uneasy Glow”—narcotic, phaser-drenched, the kind of track you listen to while watching rain streak neon off a windshield at 3AM. And “Only The Easy Way Down”? That’s the sound of guitars rewinding themselves into alternate dimensions. By the time you hit “There’s No Escape From The Infinite,” you’re not listening anymore. You’re floating. Smith, Larry Ray, and company exit the album in a hail of reverb and noise so holy, Spacemen 3 and The Jesus And Mary Chain are probably filing lawsuits from beyond the astral plane.

This 25th Anniversary Edition features:

Gloss-laminated outer sleeve (shiny like your dreams)

4-page folded A4 insert (liner notes from the other side)

Download code (because the future still matters)

Outrageous Cherry didn’t just make music—they made moments. Out There In The Dark is the one you forgot you needed. Now it’s back. Louder. Weirder. On wax. Finally.

“It doesn’t sound like 1999. It sounds like a radio station tuned to the echo of everything cool that ever happened. And everything that never got the chance.”
